How the percentile is found

  1. Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning are reported from 130 to 170 in one-point steps; Analytical Writing from 0 to 6 in half-point steps.

  2. Each score is looked up in Tables 1B and 1C of ETS's “GRE General Test Interpretive Data”: the percentage of test takers who scored lower.

  3. The tables cover everyone who tested between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2025: 788,021 people in Verbal, 790,864 in Quantitative and 785,720 in Analytical Writing.

  4. The calculator starts at ETS's means for the same period: Verbal 151.39, Quantitative 157.62, Analytical Writing 3.46.

What this cannot tell you

  • ETS publishes no table from correct answers to scaled scores: Verbal and Quantitative scores reflect both how many questions you got right and how hard your sections were. So this page does not predict a GRE score from a raw score; it starts from the score you have.

  • ETS scales each measure separately and says scores from different measures should not be compared directly, so there is no total here.

  • ETS updates its interpretive data every year, so the percentile for the same score can move over time.

  • Where ETS's table leaves a cell blank (Verbal 130; Quantitative 130–132; Analytical Writing 0 and 0.5), no percentile is shown.

Frequently asked questions

What does the percentile mean?▾

It is the percentage of test takers in ETS's reference group who scored lower. Quantitative 160, for example, sits at 50: half of those who tested from 2022 to 2025 scored below 160.

Why not add Verbal and Quantitative together?▾

ETS scales each measure on its own and says the scores should not be compared directly. To compare your measures, ETS points you to the percentile ranks instead.

Can I turn correct answers on a practice test into a GRE score here?▾

Not with this page. ETS publishes no raw-to-scaled table; your score depends on how many questions you answered correctly and on how hard your sections were.

How often do the percentiles change?▾

ETS updates its interpretive data once a year. The table here covers July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2025.

Is anything I enter sent anywhere?▾

No. The sums run in your browser; nothing you enter is sent or stored, and you do not need an account.
