Updated: Mar 19

5. Flexibility

One of the things many people do not consider when they are thinking of there future is career flexibility. What this means is how quickly and how easily you can change careers if you wanted to do so. The traditional college route has you study a topic for about 4 years for a bachelor's degree, then 2-3 for masters, and about 2-5 for a PH-D. What if at the end of all that schooling you do like the work you are doing. One would think that it would become clear during schooling you don't like this particular field and you would change your mayor however that is not always the case. Trade school offers you a quick passage into the career of your choice. If that field is not a good fit you can easily change paths without having to worry about the thousands of dollars in student loans!

4. Less Time in School

Much of the flexibility you get from trade school comes from the fact trade school on average is a lot shorter than the college route. Many trade school programs last a few months as aposed to a few years. For example, a Phlebotomy Technician training program can last around 5-6 weeks and a Patient Care Technician program can last around 3-4 months. Programs like Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assistant, and Surgical Technician usually last around 5-6 months.

3. Low Cost

In addition to the less time spent in school, the trade route often comes with a lower price tag as well. However, there is not much regulation in the education department when it comes to the pricing of school so this can vary on the particular type of education you are trying to receive and where. However, trade programs for healthcare positions like Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, and Patient Care Technician can be a fast and cheap path into the healthcare field.

2. Career Advancement Opportunities

When you take on a trade program you give yourself an opportunity for an entry-level position in your field of choice. Trade School graduates have the opportunity to continuously upgrade their career through career advancement programs. In healthcare programs, for example, you can start with 1 certification and through time add several certifications to your resume. Or you can start with a multi-certification program can have several certifications under your belt from the start.

1. Huge Demand for Technicians

There is a large demand for Technicians in nearly all fields. Becoming a technician in any field can serve as a fast entry into a position that can provide a liveable income.
