A common misconception is that in order to enter the healthcare field you must obtain a college degree. There are many positions available in a hospital that do not require a college education. College is an excellent route for those that know exactly the career they want to pursue however, it is not a requirement to enter the healthcare profession. There are positions for Surgical Technician, telemetry technician, phlebotomy and EKG technician, and Patient Care Technician that do not require a college degree. What is Unique about Patient Care Technicians?

Patient Care Technicians (PCT's) are one of the most diversely skilled members of the medical support staff. PCTS are trained in blood draws, EKGs, range of motion exercises and physical therapy, and wound care. Their skills allow them to work in nearly any department at a hospital. Patient Care Technician training programs often provide students three separate certifications once they complete the program. These certifications being Phlebotomy, EKG, and PCT. Because patient care technicians can work in nearly all hospital departments they can easily transition into a specialized role to upgrade the career in the facility they are working at.

Working as a patient care technician also exposes you to the range of healthcare professions you may not have previously considered as a career.
