Updated: Mar 19

Find the Right School

The most convenient way to find the right school starts with a quick easy online search. When looking for schools in your area make sure you check out available schedules offered at the school and tuition prices. Be sure to do your research and visit a few schools to shop around for the best price and fit for you. Make sure that where ever you chose to go that upon completion of the program you are eligible to sit for national certification exams. Also, check to see if there are any Career Advancement opportunities offered at the school. Career Advancement Opportunities includes programs such as Patient Care Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy and EKG technician.

Look Into Bridge Programs

Also, you may want to find schools that offer bridge programs for phlebotomy. Bridge programs allow students to gain certifications in multiple areas of study. For example, the New Educare Institute of Healthcare offers many bridges programs for Phlebotomy Technicians to add the skills of EKG, Patient Care, Clinical Medical Assistant, and Medical Billing and Coding quickly and easily to their resume. Once you find a school that suits you must make sure you are eligible to apply.

Meeting the Requirements

Phlebotomy Technician programs in New Jersey may have requirements for its applicants. For instance, some training programs require that you must have at least a high school diploma or a G.E.D. While other schools will allow applicants or prospective students that do not hold a High School Diploma or G.E.D to take a placement test to determine the eligibility. These placement exams are typically the HESI A2 entrance test which stands for Health Education Systems Incorporated. This exam will determine if a prospective student can enter a program based on their current level of healthcare knowledge. Other requirements could be various types of documents including Social Security Card, Photo ID, Visa, or Passport.

After meeting all the requirements check your financial obligation and set up a payment plan with the school. Once you start your classes be sure to study! Studying will push you towards success. Keeping up with the material as you go through the program is the best way to ensure you achieve the highest grade possible. Waiting to the end of the program to study for the final and national exam will leave stressed and with a grade, you do not deserve. Some schools charge students for taking the national certification exam, while others include it within the tuition. On your search for a school be sure to ask a question regarding the national certification exam and whether or not they are an approved testing site. If the school you are looking at is not an approved testing site you have to pay additional fees to other schools in order for you to sit for your exam. Above all never give up on your healthcare dreams. If you don't succeed with your first attempt, at least you know your weak points and the level of effort you have to give the next time around.

At successful completion of the program you will receive a Certification of Completion with your name on it from NEIH. A certificate of completion displays that you have successfully completed the course work required in the program. It sets a benchmark that others may or may not have achieved.
